Talent Alone is Not Enough, Character Makes the Difference

Talent usually takes many to the limelight but the ones who have
failed to develop strong
character rarely stay their long because talent cannot take you farther than your character.

Your character is the sum of all the qualities that make you who you are. It is a product of your values, thoughts, words, actions and habits.
Dreams become shattered, possibilities and opportunities are lost when someone does not
have character protecting his talent. Character provides opportunity for longevity in any career,
relationship etc. Character makes a lasting difference.
According to John Maxwell, here’s how
Character influences your talents:
-Talented people are sometimes tempted to take
the short cut. Character prevents that.
-Talented people may feel superior and expect special privileges. Character helps them to know better.

-Talented people are praised for what others see them build. Character builds what is inside them,

-Talented people have the potential to be difference makers. Character makes the difference in them.

-Talented people are a gift to the world.
Character protects that gift.
It can be built… Character can be built, but only slowly. It takes
commitment and consistency and is usually hard but the payoff is worth it.
If you’re serious about building strong character, here are helpful steps to achieve that;

•Set higher standards for yourself and refuse to lower them. One way to do this is by setting your priorities and values straight and sticking
to them.
•Say “NO” to yourself in some areas. The ability to delay (suspend) gratification and practice self-control is a sign of strength.
•Master yourself by exercising control over your instincts and passions.
•Free your mind from prejudices and seek first- hand knowledge. This will help you to be rational than be moved by emotions.
•Learn to tolerate, love, and respect others. The golden rule explains it “do to others what you
will like them to do to you”
•Break out of your comfort zone and constantly challenge yourself. This builds your confidence
and gives you the courage to stand for what is right even if you are standing alone.
•Have a positive perspective and approach to life.
