UNIBEN develops software for CBT


University of Benin, UNIBEN has developed indigenous software for the conduct of its Computer Based Testing, CBT for all examinations in the university. 



Explaining the effort of the institution on ICT, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.F.O. Orumwense said ‘’The software for CBT was indigenously developed by the University of Benin ICT Unit, making the university the first University in Nigeria to develop and use it to conduct the examinations.’’ 
According to him, The enhancement of the ICT Unit has also been extended to various units and departments of the university with the provision of the E-learning multimedia teaching programs which will aid the advancement of teaching and learning process. He said that the innovation has further prompted the university to approve the establishment of a paperless senate meeting and result presentation  powered by online application using Intranet connectivity. 
Orumwense disclosed that the administration of the university has linked all faculties, units/hostels with fibre optics for the enhancement of internet connectivity 24/7, adding, ‘’the unit is also equipped with a video conferencing room with latest infrastructure that can conveniently seat 20 people.’’ 

The major administrative sectors, he explained has been approved by Management for  computerization of the Registry and Bursary Department for seamless operations as well as to enhance the service delivery and the growth of the university. 
Meanwhile, he said that in compliance with the spirit of computer based entrance examinations being advocated by JAMB, UNIBEN has effectively keyed into the initiative as its Post-UTME and PUDE examinations are now full computer based. 

The computer based test software, he added  has been used to conduct the 2015/2016 Jamb examination which received commendations from staff as well as relevant stakeholders and observers. ‘’The ICT Unit has helped to conduct examinations in other institutions within Nigeria. 

  The Ekehuan Campus was not left out in the entire technological enhancement; it received support from the university administration and global com. Nigeria in the completion of faculties which house the Linkage of the NOC room with Fibre Optics to help the improvement of internet services on the campus. 

The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to donate an ICT building to the unit which is to house about 100 systems.
