Mobile learning, future of education, says IT expert


An information technology firm, SoftCom Solutions Limited, has introduced a mobile learning programme for undergraduates of the newly-established university, Mountain Top University. The mobile learning programme, which was developed in conjunction with Samsung Business, is a revolutionary portable mobile device bundled with EduSocial apps that allows students access course materials, lecture notes, case studies and university libraries via their mobile devices.


The device, which has been adopted by other universities like Covenant University, Ota, was distributed to the institution’s fresh students at its maiden matriculation ceremony. Speaking at the launch, Managing Partner/CEO, Softcom Solutions Limited, Mr. Yomi Adedeji said that the mobile learning device was a strategic initiative aimed at encouraging Nigerian universities students, having realised that mobile learning is the future of education globally.

According to him: ‘’Everybody knows that the country’s educational system is a bit short in terms of global competitiveness. There is a need to  to improve education service delivery through technology adoption which will improve learning experience and boost the overall academic outcome of students in Nigeria.

Mobile learning is the future of education and having seen it worked effectively in some selected universities that have adopted the device, we are motivated to extend this across the country. Today, Mountain Top University is joining the network and I can assure you that it would impact the students learning.”On his own part, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Adebowale Elijah, said the new institution was established to provide wholesome educational development and produce graduates that can compete favourably globally. He said the institution would provide infrastructure, facilities and a conducive environment for the students to excel. He said the introduction of the mobile learning device is part of the resolve to provide top-rate education for the new in-takes.Some of the dignitaries that witnessed the occasion were Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode and Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, among others.
