UNIBEN ALUMNUS SHINES AT GLOBAL STAGE

 



An alumnus of the University of Benin and Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Child Health, Dr. Andrew Agbaje, is flying the flag of the University of Benin high across the globe.

Dr Agbaje, who graduated from the School of Medicine in the 2011/2012 academic session, has won multiple awards and gained recognitions for ground-breaking research innovations in Paediatric Medicine.

The latest two are: the European Association for the Study of Obesity New Investigator Award in Childhood Obesity, and the prestigious Inaugural American Society of Nutrition Foundation-Novo Nordisk Foundation Flemming Quaade Award for Innovative Approaches to Childhood Obesity. Both Awards come with almost two hundred million Naira (equivalent) cash prize .

Dr. Agbaje is a Senior Researcher and Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Eastern Finland.

He is also principal investigator of the urFIT-child research group and has strong collaborations with world-renown paediatricians, exercise physiologists, epidemiologists, and adult clinicians in Nigeria, Canada, US, UK, Germany and other countries.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, has received news about Dr. Agbaje’s accomplishments with elation and congratulated him for being a worthy ambassador of the University of Benin.

Professor Omoregie encouraged all alumni, worldwide, to be exemplary and to keep the University’s light aglow in their various fields of specialisation.
