Uniben SUG Suspension: We Are Coming, NANS warns Uniben VC

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is mobilizing for a show
down with authorities of the University of Benin over the Vice Chancellor’s recent suspension of all executive members and parliamentarians of the Students Union Government of the institution.
The suspension of the SUG by the VC follows a recent peaceful protest it led against management of the institution over recent increments of school fees and other charges.

The Vice Chancellor had ordered the student leaders to return every union/school properties in their possession to appropriate authorities.
But in a swift reaction, the NANS Zone B leadership under Comrade Okereke Godson Bishop has ordered his members all over the zone to get set to relocate to UNIBEN and “demand for immediate removal of the Vice Chancellor” whom it accused of regularly and unjustly victimizing students of the institution.
“He has been victimizing our students unjustly and today he feels we can sit and watch him suspend the Students Union Government in the institution? Never! Tell him we are coming!”
Arising from an emergency meeting of stakeholders and senators of NANS Zone B in Enugu yesterday, the Coordinator cautions that administrators should be engine hub of peace, not war..

“Unnecessary interferences into SUG politics are reasons why some of our members and generation end up not making good leaders when they find themselves in leadership positions outside the university. Our parents as Vice Chancellors continually exhibit this military and despotic tendencies that have not done our nation any good. We believe it’s high time this is ended”, Bishop said.
