S.U.G Supreme Court: A message to all Uniben Student

The chief justice of the Supreme Court of the Students Union, Lord Justice Michael Enogieru on behalf of the Supreme Court of the students Union government is pleased to inform the students of the University of Benin
of the establishment and commencement of the Supreme Court of the Students Union Government.

The Supreme Court which is provided in section 21 of the Students Union constitution was established by a joint effort of the Vice Chancellor and the Dean of Students in this subsisting 2015/2016 academic session for the first time in 46 years.

The Court jurisdiction binds only matriculated students of the University of Benin as provided in section 6 and section 23 of the Students Union constitution and  not members of the University management whether academic or non academic.

The court will entertain cases on whatsoever matter provided in the Student Union Constitution ranging from breaches of code of conduct for both officers and members of the Student Union, interpretation of the Student Union constitution, determination of the legality or illegality of any legislative or executive actions of the Student Union Government and its agencies or committees etc.

The decisions and judgments of the court shall be enforced by the University authority which shall act in liaison with the office of the Dean of Students and the University disciplinary committee. I urge students to seek redress for any breach of their rights under the Student Union constitution at the Supreme Court of the Students Union government rather than result to jungle justice and such self help for any such act shall be punished by law.

Signed
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Student Union Government.
