NiMSA Games: Message from The President of NiMSA

BEING THE OPENING REMARK OF THE 38TH PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION (NiMSA),
HIS EXCELLENCY HARUNA MUSA KERENG (GRAND COMMANDER, NIGERIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS) AT THE 2016 NiMSA GAMES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN (15TH - 20TH MARCH, 2016)

It is a great honour to open this, the 16th biennial Nigerian medical students' games. Worthy of commendation is the staff LOC for putting a number of things aside for the service of medical students nationwide through the NiMSA Games platform. We can't thank the student OC enough, all your effort is duly appreciated by the entire NiMSA executives. I am aware we had some challenges for those who arrived last night, I apologize for all inconveniences we must have cost you, we would work on them and make sure you have a positive stay here in Benin.

The Nigerian medical students association (NiMSA), founded 1968, is the umbrella body of over 75,000 medical students cutting across over 45 recognised medical schools in Nigeria and remains one of the oldest thriving youth association. NiMSA has made Nigeria proud by standing tall via good representation among her peers both in Africa (Federation of African Medical Students Association) and globally (International federation of Medical Students Association).

Sadly, this great assocation is deficient in a lot of facilities. Hence, we solicit for assistance and support from dignitaries here present and the general public to actively encourage NiMSA by providing means of transportation (buses), monetary and other facilities, to aid the success of events and progams such as this.

The NiMSA games is a biennial program of the Nigerian medical students. It includes football, volleyball, handball, track and field events, scrabble, chess, taekwando, hockey, swimming, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and ayo. It is also one of the several programs which brings medical students together hence fostering progress and unity not only within the association but also the progress of our beloved country, Nigeria.

The University of Benin Medical students Association (UBEMSA) won the right to host the 2016 edition of the NiMSA games at the General Assembly of the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA) held at the University of Calabar in 2014. It is exactly 17years since the last NiMSA games was held in UNIBEN. It is indeed remarkable to be in this ancient city of Benin, the heartbeat of the Nation.

The NiMSA games was established with the purpose of fostering unity in the profession at a fundamental level, and so I want to plead with us to accomodate one another so as to create a wonderful atmosphere and make this games one to remember. Please let us do away with academic related issues for these few days and lace our boot to have fun. There would be an orientation table where you can learn more about the association. Feel free to approach executives on call at any time, as our hotlines would be available all through the programme.

We feel delighted to host you, wish you a fun filled stay in the heartbeat of the nation.

LONG LIVE UNIBEN
LONG LIVE NiMSA
LONG LIVE NIGERIA

HARUNA MUSA KERENG
PRESIDENT,
NIGERIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION
